FAQ
- How do You Make sure that the guys in Cameroon are actually Working? We use screen capture software to monitor what they are doing. The software scans their computer screens every ten minutes to document what they are actually doing. They are forced to work hard.
- How do You Manage their projects? We use Our Online Project Management tool to give them specific instructions, to-do lists, set timelines and deliver the documents they will be using for any given project. You can use this tool to manage projects for workers located in different countries working on the same project.
- How do you train them? We use video screen capture like Jing, Camtasia, and Procaster to record step-by-step instructions and then we upload the videos to Youtube or other video hosting sites. We also send clearly written step-by-step instructions on what needs to be done.
- How do You Deal with Power and Internet Outages? There are these power and internet outages from time to time, but suprisingly these are functioning properly 80-90% of the time. We strongly believe that a man does not wait for all the lights to be green before getting into the car to drive out of his house.
- How do we communicate b/n USA and Cameroon? We use our Online Project Management tool, traditional email, online chat, free Skype audio and video calls and MajicJack
- How are the Guys in Cameroon Paid? They are paid hourly based on clearly documented time worked using our system. This is the same system being used by companies in India, Eastern Europe, USA to monitor their offshore employees. They are expected to work 40hrs/week
- What are Your Goals? We want to have hundreds of young Cameroonians working out of our facility in Bamenda by the end of 2010. TECHDEV iNSTiTUTE wants to help Cameroonian entrepreneurs and professionals based in Cameroon and abroad create more than 20,000 jobs for our young people using outsourcing by the end of 2011.
- Has this been done in Africa before? Yes Ghana, Senegal, Kenya are big outsourcing destinations for European and American Companies. This all started as private initiatives before their governments ever stepped in once they realized the potential. Cameroon has a unique advantage of being a bilingual country.
- How can I join this movement? We are building an “army of Laptop Soldiers” who are using the advantages of a knowledge-based world economy to change lives in Cameroon by creating one job at a time. Fill out the form below if you are passionate and ready to run a “micro-tribe” in this movement (as in the book ‘Tribes’ by Seth Godin). “WE are the ones we have been waiting for” – President Obama.
